We are now facing the era of 5G network which has emerged based on the hyper-connectivity and ultra-high speed. It can enrich people’s lives, but the generation of electromagnetic waves has raised concerns over the malfunction of devices as well as the safety of humans. The Ministry of Science and ICT has announced its plan to prepare safety measures that can protect people from electromagnetic waves and bring innovation to industries. And a domestic research team has developed MXene, which is a new material for electromagnetic shielding as well as a manufacturing technology for organic ink, which can commercialize the material. MXene is a material that can block electromagnetic waves. However, it can be easily oxidized by water molecules or oxygen, during the production process. When applying organic ink to the surface of MXene particles, it can improve instability and decrease the possibility of oxidation. Moreover, a company has developed an electromagnetic wave attenuation device by making use of biophoton technology and longitudinal wave technology. And it can cut off electromagnetic waves only by connecting the device with a USB port of computers or smartphones. In cold winter, there is usually growing demand for electric pad or electric blanket. And people can be easily exposed to electromagnetic waves even while sleeping. And a company has developed a mattress by implementing heating wires that can cut off electromagnetic waves. Heating wires are embedded in between the fabric and cotton. And the heating wires that produce electromagnetic waves are coated to suppress the generation of electromagnetic waves. We explore electromagnetic shielding, which has emerged as a core technology that can relieve concerns and accelerate the expansion of the 5G era.

초연결, 초고속의 5G 시대는 우리 생활을 풍요롭게 해주지만 각종 전자파를 발생 시켜 기기 오작동 및 인체 안전에 대한 우려를 낳고 있다. 과학기술정보통신부는 산업혁신과 국민안전을 위해 전자파 인체안전제도를 마련하고 강화해 나갈 계획이라고 밝힌 가운데, 국내 연구진은 전자파 차단 신소재 ‘맥신’과 이를 상용화할 수 있는 ‘유기잉크 제조기술’을 개발했다. 전자파를 막는 성질이 있는 ‘맥신’은 제작과정에서 물 분자나 산소에 의해 산화되기가 쉬운 단점이 있는데, 맥신 입자 표면에 유기 성분을 도입해 맥신 유기 잉크를 제조하게 되면 맥신의 산화 불안정성을 극복할 수 있다. 국내 기업에서는 바이오 광학기술과 종파기술을 응용하여 ‘전자파 감쇄 장치’를 개발했다. 이 장치를 컴퓨터, 스마트폰의 USB 단자에 꽂으면 유해한 전자파와 블루라이트가 원천적으로 상쇄된다. 전기매트, 전기요 등 난방용품을 사용하는 경우 수면 중에도 전자파에 노출될 수 있는데, 이에 전자파 차단 열선을 활용한 매트도 개발됐다. 이 열선은 전자파가 나오는 발열선에 차단막을 씌워 전자파 발생량을 억제시킨 것이 특징이다. 전자파에 대한 불안감에서 벗어나 5G 시대를 빠르게 성장시킬 중요한 기술, ‘전자파 차단 기술’에 대해 알아본다.
