Private 5G networks are not intended to replace Wi-Fi, which is quite ubiquitous with the number of devices you can connect to it. Wi-Fi has strong use cases where customers are connecting the office space. However, private 5G networks come into play in being capable of scaling up to connect potentially thousands of devices. WI-Fi, on the other hand, is not able to scale to the degree necessary to connect robots and sensors to the network and it does not have the ability to give individual devices priority on the network. Private 5G networks also have built in security with the authentication practice of 5G, with eSIMs and programmable embedded SIMs. This gives the enterprise owner control over managing the devices and what priorities they have, but also since it is a private 5G network, the owner also has full control over the data that is collected and stored. Ben Posthuma, Head of Product at GXC, discusses further in this video the use cases of private 5G networks and why they differ from those of Wi-Fi.
